Embracing our Identity in Christ

As I communed with the Lord on what to write in this issue’s editorial, the Lord led me to the scripture on freedom. Easter has come and gone, but many of God’s people still have not grasped the ultimate gift of Christ yet. Just like Israel was delivered from Egypt but still longed for its familiarity, so can we also get tempted to return to the “Egypt” we were rescued from. But Christ calls us into the Promised Land of grace, where we live as sons and daughters, not slaves. Indeed, we may have gotten free fish to eat in Egypt, but life is not all about free fish, it’s about walking by the Spirit, not the flesh, its about walking in faith not by sight, it’s about desiring and living the Free life, free from the power of sin and guilt; refusing to be ruled by fear or past mistakes. Christ did not set you free so you could struggle to earn His love again. No! He set you free so you can live loved, walk boldly, and serve joyfully. But you need to understand that this freedom is not a one-time event; it's a daily decision to live as one who has been made whole by the cross. How do you live out this freedom? By choosing grace over guilt, and its sister condemnation, by receiving God’s free gift daily.

So today, breathe deep. Let go of what seeks to enslave you. Remember, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery”. Galatians 5:1 Apostle Paul added a vital instruction: “Stand firm.” Freedom in Christ must be guarded by staying rooted in the truth of the gospel. There are always forces—external and internal—that want to drag us back into old patterns of slavery: religious performance, cycles of sin, fear, comparison, and self-doubt. Standing firm means declaring: “I am not going back to chains. I am walking in the freedom Jesus paid for.” God bless you!

In a world that often measures worth by performance and perfection, many of us live as if we’re still slaves—bound by fear, guilt, and striving. But Christ calls us into something far greater: the Promised Land of grace, where we stand not as slaves but as beloved sons and daughters of God.

The journey from slavery to sonship isn’t about earning love; it’s about receiving it. Just as the Israelites were led out of Egypt into a land of promise, God invites us to step out of condemnation and into freedom. Grace redefines our identity—no longer weighed down by shame, we walk in the confidence of who we are in Him.

In this post, we’ll explore what it means to live fully in God’s grace, releasing the chains of legalism and embracing our inheritance as His children. Because in Christ, we are free—not because of what we’ve done, but because of what He’s done for us.
