"As I said, it was widely known that to be a successful reggae artist one needed to have the dreadlocks on. But I quickly learned that having dreadlocks was not just a casual choice; it was not just a fashion statement or something ordinary. To wear dreadlocks for my music career required an initiation ritual into Rastafarianism, by a Rasta Jah-man. As a young ignorant man, I did not understand the weight of that ritual nor what it meant to carry on dreadlocks."
